Who We Are...

Rick Henly - Editor

I worked at the Huntington Herald-Press over 25 years before being let go in a downsizing at the paper in 2008 by the current owners.

I'm currently employed as a custodian at Huntington North High School on third shift.  Those hours allow me to continue to do work for the website.

I have a son who is an Eagle Scout and also a senior member of the Huntington North Varsity Singers show choir and a daughter who is a Varsity Singer alumni and is currently a cruise ship performer until she decides she wants to use her teaching credentials and show kids the value of music.  My wife, Marcia and I are extremely proud of our kids.

Jeff Hoover - Editor

I have worked in IT industry for the past 12 years working in varous positions such as a Network Administrator, Cisco Voice Engineer, Sarbanes Oxley Process Developer and Auditor, and lastly as a FDA Software Validation Analyst in the medical device industry. I graduated with a bacholor's degree in Christian and History Education with a minor in Computer Science from Huntington University.  With my love for history, religion, sports, computers and politics, I chose to join this team in the pursuit of using all my interest/talents in one field.  

Almost 20 years ago, I was swept off my feet by a Chilean gal, Carla Ferretti-Hoover, who convinced me to live in Santiago, Chile for 3 1/2 years. During that time, I learned that there is a world outside of Northern Indiana, and it's quite different! Towards the end of our stay in Chile, our first child, Michelle, was born. She's very intelligent, excellent writer and quite good-looking, and her father owns a big bat. Our second child, Madison, is a beautiful, life of the party, red-head who does quite well in school too.

Lamont Neal - Editor

I was born and raised in the South end of the county graduating from Huntington North. After a short detour I enrolled at Huntington University and received a bachelor’s in Business Management and later completed my Computer Science degree.   

Tom Stong - Editor

I have lived my entire life in Huntington. I am reasonably sure I will end it here...  finish it here. 

I have a wonderful wife and three beautiful children. Okay, a beautiful wife,one beautiful child and two above average looking chlldren.

I am one of the four founding members of this newspaper.

I have always been concerned for my follow man, and not so long ago, with the aid of 3 fine gentlemen, decided to help start this news site.

I hope you all enjoy and use this paper!

Nick Johnson - Reporter

I was born and raised in Huntington County.  Recently I married the love of my life, Lauren Davenport-Johnson, who has been my best friend for many years.  My wife and I share a passion for sports and love watching the local teams compete.  I am a runner by nature, and my wife is a humble Basketball star.  However, my wife has recently taken to running full time and ever since it has become increasingly more difficult to stay faster than her.
I love working with everyone at Huntington Free Press, and I really enjoy what we do!
