Two students from Huntington North High School, Matthew Harter and Kourtney Johnson, have been named to receive the Andrews Elementary School Brandon Wilburn and Jason Harlan Memorial Scholarship. The former Andrews Elementary students will each receive a $500 scholarship.
Harter is the son of Scott and Lisa Harter. At Huntington North, he was a member of the boys’ tennis team where he was selected for the NCC All-Academic Team and was awarded the HNHS Viking Integrity Award for Sportsmanship. Harter earned an HNHS Academic Letter and is a member of the National Honor Society. He is a member of the choir, where he has won ISSMA music awards. He has earned the Indiana Work Ethic Gold Certificate, and was a Junior Rotarian. He participates in the Lime City Jazz Orchestra, Service Club, Peer Tutoring, and Church Youth Group. He has served as a tax preparation volunteer through Pathfinder Services. Harter has an Eagle Scout rank in Boy Scouts, where he restored and cleaned up the Hillcrest Cemetery in Huntington County. Harter plans to attend Manchester College to study Secondary Math Education.
Johnson is the daughter of Kenneth and Marla Johnson. She has participated in DECA, Freshmen Mentoring, and the Psychology Club. She has been a member of student council, and this past year, she served as President. She is also a member of the National Honor Society. Johnson will attend Manchester College to study accounting.
The scholarship is awarded annually from the money donated by the Andrews PTO.
