Lisa McDonald councilor at Crestview attended the meeting and dinner honoring the outstanding students. Lisa McDonald spoke about the outstanding students as special people that are a shining example to others in the community and at Crestview middle school. She also read a brief letter written by each recipient’s teacher. She thanked the parents for their support and the great teachers at Crestview. Lisa McDonald then introduced Rachel Anderson daughter of Pamela and Steve Anderson and Brady Hill son of Mike and Cheri Hill as the outstanding 8th graders.

Rachel introduced her parents and thanking them for the impact they have had on her life and taught her most importantly to trust in God. She also thanked the teachers, coaches and friends for their influence and encouragement. Also she thanked Metro Kiwanis for the recognition for this honor. Rachel loves sports and has participated in volleyball, basketball track and swimming which her mother prefers as it has less potential for injury. Rachel said that even though she is not in the band that she has played the piano for several years. One of Rachel’s favorite subjects is Spanish which she contributes to the teacher she had. Rachel feels it is a privilege for her to help people less fortunate then her and takes pleasure in serving food to homeless, visiting nursing homes, helping Karing for Kids, helping the Cystic Fibrosis foundation and going on mission trip to help orphanage in Belize. Even though Rachel is very busy she always makes sure her school work comes first as her parents have taught her that you will get farther in life with a good education which she believes is true and will be attending college to study for the medical field. Also with her hectic schedule she always has time for God with her involvement in campus life and student leaders. Rachel closed with saying how grateful she was for this award and thanked everyone.

Brady introduced his parents and sister (Alexa) who is a 7th grade student at Crestview and brother (Issac) who is a 3rd grader at Northwest. Brad thanked Metro Kiwanis for this award and also thanked Mrs. McDonald and his teachers for their help his and selection as outstanding 8th grader, they have been a big influence to his in school career and other activities.

Brady has been involved in many things throughout his time at Crestview.  He has participated in football, basketball, campus life, student leaders, Spanish Club and the safety council. By participating in these activities it has taught Brady the value of sportsmanship, teamwork and leadership. After a good football season and a disappointing loss to Warsaw Tigers he learned how to accept defeat and that one needs to always bring their “A” game.

Outside of Crestview Brady enjoys participating in Huntington County Baseball, his church’s youth group and 4-H. Brady said he feels he gets the same benefits of teamwork and sportsmanship from his participation in these activities. He also enjoys anything that can be done by working with others.  Hobbies and other interest he has include reading, weight lifting, 4 wheeling spending time with friends and going on mission trips. Brady has gone on mission trips to Guatemala and the Ukraine. While on these mission trips he learned how fortunate we are here in this country. One person that Brady admires is the late Walter Payton because he is a huge Chicago Bears fan and that Walter is one of the best running backs to ever play the game of football. Also that he played everything with a great heart, but he also exhibited this as he faced death at an early age.

Brady wanted to thank his parents for everything they have done for him and for always pushing him to be the best at whatever he does. He also wanted to thank the Metro Kiwanis and Crestview staff for being chosen for this honor.

Each student received a plaque and will have his or her names engraved on the outstanding student plaque that was made by Huntington Metro Kiwanis member Jim Dinius. The plague is displayed in a prominent place in the school. Congratulations to each student on being outstanding 8th grader.
