On February 26, 2010, Horace Mann Elementary School ended the final day of preparation for ISTEP +, with an assembly for their third, fourth and fifth grade students.
The assembly consisted of a panel of guests, including Russ Lawson, Huntington University Soccer Coach, Rief Gilg, Head Football Coach HNHS, two representatives from the Ft. Wayne Firehawks Arena Football team, the HNHS Cheerleaders, and Marvin Martinez, Soccer player for HU. Sadie Landrum, was the emcee for this event and provided the panel with questions regarding testing preparation, and also how to have a positive attitude and persevere during tough times. During this event, the cheerleaders provided the students with ISTEP+ cheers, and the staff members, for these students, provided their own cheer, spelling out the word ATTITUDE.
With knowing how stressful of a time, test-taking can be, the staff at Horace Mann wanted to show the students that they cared about how they perform on this test and wanted to help provide positive support to make the students successful. Students left the assembly receiving bracelets from the panel speakers that said “Attitude is Everything at Test Time: Learn It, Know It, Show It”.
