Huntington University history professor Dr. Tim Smith will host a discussion on the Vietnam War at 7 p.m. Feb. 1 in the RichLyn Library conference room. The discussion, which is free and open to the public, will be a celebration, as well as a mini-lecture, of the release of Smith’s second book “Churchill, America and Vietnam 1941-1945.”

“Churchill” is an examination of British policy toward the post-war structure of the European colonial empires. The book released Nov. 8.

“Churchill” follows Smith’s 2007 release of “Britain and the Origins of the Vietnam War: UK Policy in Indo-China, 1943-50” which studies Britain’s involvement with Vietnam from Churchill’s World War II deliberations.

Smith is the associate professor of history at Huntington University. He came to the university in 2007 after having previously taught history at the University of East Anglia in the United Kingdom. His research and teaching focus on British imperial and diplomatic history.

“Churchill” is available at Amazon.com and Barnes and Noble. It is also available in an E-reader format.

The book was funded through the Huntington University Research Fellowship which was awarded to Smith in 2010. The fellowship is provided by the Lilly Foundation.
