Three teachers from Northwest Elementary School are awarded grants from Huntington County Community Foundation (HCCF). Cari Neal and Lisa Meyer (Resource Teachers) will utilize the grant to purchase a reading intervention kit to aid with struggling readers.
For Lyn Ocken (Art Teacher) the grant will provide clay and tools for 1st and 3rd grade students to create a collaborative 3-D tile mural based on the Dr. Seuss book, The Lorax. The objectives are tied to earth day, and Dr. Seuss day; and incorporate math and measuring, as well as common core standards for visual arts. The tiles will be mounted in the school as a large mural of artwork demonstrating a great deal of thought, literacy, and community --a legacy that these children will share with all that come after them.
