I Want to be a Veterinarian

By Tammy Winans on Friday, October 29th, 2010 | Bookmark and Share

Recently our 1st graders had a visit from Dr. Frank Helfrich.  Dr. Helfrich is from Covington Veterinary Hospital in Fort Wayne.  Dr. Helfrich came to Roanoke Elementary School to tell students all about his job as a veterinarian and how he helps animals. The students were able to view an actual dog heart with worms.  Dr. Helfrich also demonstrated on the students some of the things that he examines on pets, such as looking in the ears and listening to their hearts.  Some student volunteers were able to help demonstrate how the doctor would put sutures in while doing surgery.    The visit was very informative to all the 1st graders and it help to make connections with activities that were being done in their classrooms.
