Three middle school students from Salamonie School were recently recognized as
Artists of the Month by the LaFontaine Arts Council. Each month throughout the school
year, this program recognizes students in grades 6-12 for their outstanding performance
in the fine arts subjects of instrumental music, vocal music, visual art, drama, theater,
communications and speech.
Nominated by her Vocal Music teacher Sue Coolman, 8th grader Megan Pressler is the
daughter of Heather and April Pressler of Andrews. According to Ms. Coolman, “Megan
is the soprano section leader who exhibits an excellent work ethic, is very helpful and a
good soloist.” Megan also participates in the “Circle the State with Song.”
Walter Hacker is an 8th grade student at Salamonie and the son of Mike and Sandy
Hacker of Huntington. His excellence in instrumental performance brought about his
nomination as an Artist of the Month by band instructor, Doug Hofherr. “Walter is not
only an excellent student but also displays a great work ethic and conscienciousness
along with a great attitude and sense of humor.” states Mr. Hofherr. Walter also
participates in All Region Honor Band as well as track, cross country and swimming
teams.
Johnna Cummins is the daughter of Dennis and Amy Cummins of Warren and is a 6th
grader at Salamonie School. Ms. Diana Iden, Art Teacher, nominated Johnna for her
talent and creativity. “She is an outstanding student and a positive role model for her
classmates” states Ms. Iden.
