Man Arrested for Drunk Driving

A man from Ohio was arrested by the Indiana State Police on Thanksgiving Day for driving his vehicle, with two minor children, in excess of 100 miles per hour on I-69 while under the influence of alcohol.
According to Trooper Chris Kinsey, at approximately 5:00 pm on November 24th, the Steuben County Sheriff Department dispatched a vehicle traveling at a speed in excess of 100 miles per hour as it reportedly traveled northbound on I-69 from the 140 mile marker. Kinsey observed a vehicle matching the description and tracked it with his RADAR at 119 miles per hour in the area of the 151 mile marker.
Kinsey stated that the driver, Robert P. Jahns, 36, from Middletown, Ohio was traveling to a family gathering in Battle Creek, Michigan with his wife and two step-children, ages 5 and 16. Further investigation led Kinsey to believe that Jahns was under the influence of an alcoholic beverage(s) at the time and when he was offered a chemical breath test at the Steuben County Jail, he submitted to and tested above the legal limit of .08%.
Jahns was incarcerated in the Steuben County Jail on a felony charge of operating while intoxicated and his bond was set at $5,000. He has since posted bond and has been released pending his initial hearing. Kinsey reminds motorists that last year, 135 people were killed on Indiana highways as a result of impaired drivers and that nearly 25 percent of all fatal crashes were alcohol related.
