During the late evening hours of Wednesday, November 23rd and into the early morning hours of Thursday, November 24th, troopers from the Indiana State Police post in Fort Wayne utilized both a sobriety checkpoint and roving saturation patrols to great success in support of the “Safe Family Travel” campaign.

According to Lieutenant Tony Casto, Fort Wayne District Commander, during a 12 hour period, troopers arrested a total of nine intoxicated drivers, including one who had allegedly been operating a vehicle under the influence of a controlled substance.  Two people from that vehicle were also incarcerated for possession of a controlled substance.  Troopers issued a total of 22 traffic tickets, including three suspended drivers and seven seatbelt violations, 15 warnings, conducted five inspections of commercial motor vehicles and placed one commercial motor vehicle operator out of service.

Indiana State Police and nearly 250 other Indiana law enforcement agencies will continue to participate in the “Safe Family Travel” campaign to increase patrols targeting impaired and aggressive drivers through the remainder of the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

The Indiana State Police is committed to traffic safety and will continue to conduct saturation patrols and sobriety checkpoints to apprehend impaired drivers and to deter others from drinking and driving.
