Announcing the candidacy of Jay Lahr for election to the office of City Clerk-Treasurer on the Republican ballot.
Lahr 60, who is seeking to return to the office of clerk-treasurer, is a lifelong resident of Huntington. He has a Business Administration degree from Huntington University, and has attended courses and seminars on municipal government sponsored by the Indiana League of Municipal Clerks and Treasurers (ILMCT) and Ball State University.
Lahr has several years’ experience in accounting and business office management, including twelve years as the clerk-treasurer of Huntington. Lahr was three-term clerk-treasurer holding the office from 1992 through 2003. Prior to taking office he was Business Office Manager at Taylor University-Fort Wayne, where he managed the accounting functions of the college. Upon leaving the office of clerk-treasurer, he was the treasurer of South Adams Schools.
Lahr stated: “I enjoyed being the clerk-treasurer and serving the community. My experience and abilities have prepared me for the challenges of government service combined with the management of a busy business office and the oversight of a $14,000,000 budget during this difficult time for municipalities. During my time as clerk-treasurer, I established a good working relationship with the State Board of Accounts, State Department of Local Government Finance and City Council.
During his time as clerk-treasurer, Lahr achieved the designation of Indiana Accredited Municipal Clerk (IAMC) from the ILMCT and the designation of Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC) from the International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC). Lahr served on the Legislative Committee of the ILMCT, the Budget and Finance Committee of the Indiana Association of Cities and Towns and was a member of the Association of Public Treasurers of the United States.
Lahr is married to Beth Lahr, who is the Managing Director of Development Operations in the Advancement Office at Huntington University. They have two married sons and seven grandchildren. Lahr is a member of the First Church of the Nazarene where he is the treasurer and serves on the Board of Trustees.
