ADVOCATE FOR "FASHIONS FOR THE ARTS"

Photographer and videographer Rob Myers will be featured as the Arts Advocate at this year's "Fashions for the Arts," an annual event sponsored by the La Fontaine Arts Council.  The luncheon and fashion show will be held November 5 at 11 AM at the La Fontaine Golf Club in Huntington.

A Huntington County native and Huntington North High School graduate, Myers developed a love of old movies from the time he was young, a passion he shared with his older brother Rod.  The brothers oftentimes discussed how to become moviemakers themselves.

"We were always talking, dreaming and scheming about movies," Myers recalled.

Then their plans took a serious turn.  A friend of the Myers brothers had purchased a VW bus, so the three young men headed to California to make films.  They chose the San Jose area where they were all able to get job immediately.  In their spare time, the brothers watched as many old movies as they could in theatres in the area.

Myers said, "It was film school before we went to film school."

Ultimately, the two enrolled in the film program at De Anza College and collaborated on their thesis.  Their award-winning effort was a 16 mm film titled "Game," based on a short story by Donald Barthelme.

Myers then moved to San Francisco.  He worked for CNET, producing shows for Ryan Seacrest and Ron Reagan, Jr.  Next he was a producer and media director for Quokka Sports, a job that enabled him to travel all over the world.  He then worked as editor of digital media at a company that produced major events.  It was this experience that taught him how to run a business.

He started RAMP Media, his own photography and video company for corporate clients, in California.  Because his business can be located anywhere, he returned to Huntington County where he has also established a family photography enterprise.

Myers will present a short talk advocating the importance of the arts.  "Fashions for the Arts" will also have items available for silent auction.  Tickets for the event are $25 and can be purchased from any LAC board member or can be reserved by calling 260-356-8874.

All proceeds from the event go toward the LAC's "Arts in Education"
