Valentine's Banquet - Updated

The Children’s Choir of Huntington County (CCHC) is hosting a Valentine’s Banquet on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at 6:30 pm in the St. Peter Lutheran School Gymnasium, 605 Polk St. in Huntington. The fundraiser features dancers from the Renaissance Ballroom Dance Studio, American Style Ballroom Dance Studio, and the popular men’s group, Treblemakers, from Huntington University.  There will also be a dinner and silent auction of various small and large items donated by community merchants.

The performers will provide a nice variety of music and dance. The Renaissance Ballroom Dance Studio is located in Ossian, IN and is owned and operated by Dave Cowdry who will be dancing with Bonnie Jones. Also among the dancers are Mike and Terra Rowley, dancing the cha-cha.  Dan and Sue Rumple who will be doing a waltz and representing the American Style Ballroom Dance Studio of Ft. Wayne, Indiana.

When asked about performing for the Valentine’s Banquet fundraiser, Cowdry stated he is excited about the opportunity. “It is an honor to be able to support the choir in this way. Music is often a door for students to realize a life-long passion and career options. The Children’s Choir gives this opportunity to the students of Huntington County.”

The Treblemakers is an a cappella men’s group made up of HU students. They sing beautiful, jazzy harmonies and are likely to sing one of your favorites.  Their excellent vocals are complemented with a good dose of humor that never fails to please the crowd.

The dinner will be catered by Deb Gearhart including herb-crusted chicken, roasted red potatoes with cheese and bacon, honey glazed carrots, salad, bread, dessert, and beverages.

CCHC has been in existence for 19 years and serves students in 3rd through 9th grades with the Treble and Concert Choirs. The choirs focus on providing excellent music and choral training for children. Another goal is to provide performance experiences outside of Huntington to enrich the students’ learning. The choirs perform several concerts each year and are available for community events. The choirs have performed at Carnegie Hall in New York for the National Children’s Choir Festival and for the Indiana Music Educators Association conference. The organization also provides music preparatory classes for ages 0-2nd grade to provide a stronger foundation for children.

The Children’s Choir strives to keep tuition as low as possible in order to make the program accessible to as many Huntington County children as possible. Fundraisers such as the Valentine’s Banquet help to make that possible. The Valentine’s Banquet is a way for community members to support the choir while enjoying a lovely evening of excellent entertainment and food.

The banquet begins with a reception and silent auction at 6:30 pm at the St. Peter Lutheran School Gymnasium followed by the dinner and entertainment. Reservations are required. Tickets are $25 per person. To make a reservation, contact Cathie Cady at (260) 519-2003 or clcady2006@yahoo.com. Payment may be sent to Children’s Choir of Huntington County, PO Box 293, Huntington, IN 46750.
