AUBURN (July 20, 2010)— On July 24th and 25th, 2010, from 10-4 and 10-3 (respectively), the National Military History Center in Auburn will once again ring with the sounds of bullets and battle cries as HistoryFest takes over the grounds. A 2-day timeline event featuring living history reenactments from 1745-1975, HistoryFest is a free family event that is both educational and exciting!
Over 200 re-enactors will set up camp surrounding the pond, portraying the life and times of various soldiers in their respective conflicts. Fun times are sure to be had as they act out battle scenes, do weapons demonstrations, interact with patrons and live just as their historical counterparts would. Journey into the building to explore more history; meet WWII survivor and published author Russ McLogan, investigate the history of German vehicle camouflage and take a free guided tour of the museum with purchase of $5 admission!
Kids are invited to try on real WWII uniforms, do a scavenger hunt, scope out the enemy, handle authentic weapons and play games with the re-enactors. Take a trip back in time while you interact with first person personalities like Teddy Roosevelt.
High’s BBQ will also sponsor the event with a chicken dinner fundraiser. For just $7.50, you can dine in style with the thrill of history surrounding you. This dinner will include half of a chicken, coleslaw, potato and dinner roll with butter. Proceeds will benefit the National Military History Center, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.
Discover history in a fun and fascinating way as you walk through time with HistoryFest. Enrich your education, enlighten your children and grandchildren, and enjoy each other with the fun of this free family event!
