Wabash County Museum highlights

Huntington Free Press receives information from Wabash County and although we haven't always published it online, we know that Huntington residents are often seen in the community to our west.  With the newly-remodeled County Museum such an incredible place to learn of the area's history, we felt that we should publish information regarding the museum for our readers. Upcoming events at the museum are:

History Hunters Event, July 22 at noon

Our next History Hunters event will be held at noon on Thursday, July 22, in the multipurpose room.  President Teddy Roosevelt (as portrayed by Gib Young from Huntington) will be here to talk about his family’s experiences in the White House, his adventures as a rancher and cowboy on the Dakota Plains, his experiences in Oklahoma Territory on the great wolf hunt, life in Cuba with the Rough Riders, and more.

If you haven’t seen this presentation, you’ll want to!  Gib’s transformation into Roosevelt is AMAZING, to say the least.  The event, sponsored by our friends at Peabody Retirement Community, is free for members or with a paid daily admission.   Call 260.563.9070 to reserve your spot!

Family Fun Day, Saturday, July 31 from 10 am to 4 pm

Special note about this!  My last correspondence had an incorrect date for this event.  The real, correct date is SATURDAY, JULY 31, from 10 am to 4 pm.  By then, you might have run out of ideas for keeping your children entertained over the summer vacation.  This will be a great family day out for your children, grandchildren, nieces & nephews…all the kids in your life!  Our theme will be “MOVIES” and the team here is having fun coming up with fun ideas for this event.  There might even be some popcorn involved.  Admission is free for members or with a paid daily admission.  Sponsored by The Bash 105.9.

Red Carpet Club, August 26th at 6 pm

Do you know about the Red Carpet Club yet?  Every other month, we will show a movie with an Indiana connection in our theatre here at the museum.  (We can seat about 40 people.)  Our next showing will be on August 26th at 6 pm and we will watch The Great Outdoors, a comedy starring John Candy and Dan Aykroyd.

What is the Indiana connection?  John Corso, who grew up in Wabash and moved back when he retired, was the Art Director of this film, produced by John Hughes.  This will be the third movie of John’s we have watched and after each one, he answers questions and talks about the making of the film.  Last time, he casually mentioned that he had worked on THREE Marilyn Monroe films!  Fascinating stuff! It is not too early to call 260.563.9070 to reserve your spot!

The Wabash County Museum is located at 36 E Market Street, Wabash, IN 46992
