Blood drive to honor Donovan Nathaniel

By Red Cross on Tuesday, August 10th, 2010 | Bookmark and Share

There will be a Special blood drive this Saturday, August 14, in honor of Donovan Nathaniel Allen Cain. Donovan is a two year old boy who is fighting to regain his life after a tragic accident on Sunday July 17. That was when he got hold of a can of power steering fluid and drank some. He breathed some into his lungs and they were badly burned. He has battled back from a 50-50 chance of survival, and is growing stronger every day. He has had blood transfusions, which have strengthened him in his fight. Donovan is still in the hospital in Indianapolis, relearning how to hold his head up, and other basic motor skills. This little boy lives in Huntington with his mother and two sisters. The blood drive has been organized by Donovan’s family and friends.

The blood drive in his honor will be held at the Huntington Salvation Army Saturday from 10 to 4. Everyone who would like to donate is urged to go to www.givelife.org to schedule an appointment, or call 1-800-GIVELIFE.  Those organizing it say “Let’s make this the biggest blood drive Huntington has ever seen!”

16 and 17 year olds are also eligible to donate, although 16 year olds will need a parental consent form signed at the time of donation.

Other tips for a successful donation can be found at www.givelife.org.
