The Huntington County Red Cross Chapter has the opportunity to expand on its Emergency Information System, (EIS) Program that was developed in cooperation of the United Way and Emergency Management Agency’s of Huntington. Thanks to the Huntington County Community Foundation, the local Chapter is able to achieve this mission with the funding support of $400.00.
This event will fully address the communication needs for the entire county during the events of emergencies. It is our intent to educate and inform the public that during a declared emergency, they can call 211 for updated information concerning; shelter operations, power outages, road closures, and other related emergency situations. The funding provided by HCCF will purchase 1,500 magnets to be passed out during this year’s Heritage Day Parade.
The Huntington County Chapter of the American Red Cross received its Charter in 1917. During its past history, the presence of the American Red Cross in Huntington County has served the community in various levels. During times of war and conflicts, the local Chapter is the only Agency the US Military will recognize and accept Emergency Communication to its Service members. Every day, the urgent need of Blood transfusions is ever present in this community. With the efforts of over 50 Blood Drives annually, there is always a sufficient supply of blood for residents undergoing surgeries or other emergency procedures. As part of its mission statement, the American Red Cross provides continued education programs to assist residents in preparedness and prevention of Disasters.
The Huntington County Chapter provides services in the fields of;
Disaster Services, Health and Safety Training, Blood Drives, and Service to Armed Forces with meeting transportation needs to medical appointments for Veterans along with 24/7 Emergency Communication to Service members all over the world.
In our Mission Statement it clearly spells out our commitment to serve this community.
The American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization led by volunteers and guided by its Congressional Charter and the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross Movement, will provide relief to victims of disaster and help people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies.
