Troop 130 Hosts Open House

By Lamont Neal on Wednesday, September 1st, 2010 | Bookmark and Share

The scouts of BSA Troop 130 (Huntington) invite families with young men ages 11 to 17 who are interested in Boy Scouts to attend an Open House on September 13 at 6:30-8:00 PM at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, 648 N. LaFontaine Street in Huntington.  Cake and punch will be served, and Troop 130 families will be available to answer questions about scouting.  Participants will also witness a court of honor at which rank advancements and merit badges will be awarded.

Troop 130 is the Wabash Valley District Troop of the Year for 2009, and has held that distinction for many years running.  In the last three decades Troop 130 has helped to shape young men into community leaders through a substantial outdoor program and an active schedule of rank advancement and merit badge activities.  Nearly thirty Troop 130 scouts have attained the rank of Eagle Scout, typically with Eagle projects that included hundreds of hours of community service.  Recent adventure trips include whitewater rafting in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee, adventure cycling on the Michigan shoreline trail, backpacking in Glacier National Park in Montana, and cave exploring in southern Indiana.  Troop 130 participates in district and council Camporees, summer camping programs, and the Order of the Arrow, and recently sent two scouts to the BSA National Jamboree.  Troop fundraisers help scouts to pay for travel expenses, registration fees, and necessary outdoor equipment.

If you have any questions about how to become involved in scouting, please email Mike Cook at mc_cook@sbcglobal.net<mailto:mc_cook@sbcglobal.net> or Assistant Scoutmaster Jeff Webb at jwebb@huntington.edu<mailto:jwebb@huntington.edu>, or come to St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church on Monday evenings anytime between 6:30 PM and 8:00 PM.
