Sweet-SMART Girls Program a Hit

By Mandy Reber on Thursday, August 11th, 2011 | Bookmark and Share

The Sweet-SMART Girls summer program held at the Boys & Girls Club has had a fun summer.  Girls in 7th-12th grade participate in weekly lessons about relationships, self-esteem, healthy living and peer leadership.  The Sweet-SMART Girls concept was identified at the beginning of the summer, so the group would work on complimenting others around them.  The YMCA weighed and measured the girls at the start of the summer, and the group of 18 girls lost 31 total pounds over the course of 8 weeks and 10 ½” from their waists!  The girls also participated in many fun activities throughout the summer, from swimming to the movies, from a campout to back-to-school clothes shopping at Jefferson Point, the girls have gained confidence, established friendships and are able to communicate better with their peers.  Sweet-SMART Girls is sponsored by Parkview Huntington Hospital and Unilever-Breyers.
