In keeping with its mission vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live, and seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope.
Huntington County Habitat for Humanity has scheduled a groundbreaking ceremony for its 24th home on Tuesday, July 19, at 12:00 noon, at 1638 Jessup St., in Huntington. Union Church’s Senior Pastor Matt Gapinski and Adult Ministries’ Mark Hoffer will offer scripture and prayer.
Located near the corner of Etna Avenue and Jessup Street, this house will be built by volunteers working alongside Partner Homeowner Kim Clickner and under the supervision of John Bostel, Habitat’s Construction Supervisor.
Huntington County Habitat is one of 19 Indiana Habitat affiliates to partner with Habitat Indiana to receive a federal Housing & Urban Development (HUD) grant through Indiana Housing & Community Development Authority (IHCDA). Brian Philps, of IHCDA, and Gina Leckron, Director of Habitat Indiana, will make a few remarks as part of the groundbreaking ceremony. Jean Wright, Huntington County Habitat’s Executive Director, says “I think we may be the first of the Indiana affiliates in this grant program to break ground.”
Everyone is welcome to attend. Habitat would like to have enough people present to encircle the lot during the ceremony. Participants and observers may attend during their lunch break, and be back to work within an hour. Hot dogs, chips, and sodas will be provided by Union Church and Habitat’s Board of Directors members, and will be available to attendees at no cost. Park at the Habitat office, 1454 Etna Ave., in Huntington.
