On Tuesday, July 19, approximately 60 supporters of Kim Clickner and Huntington County Habitat for Humanity gathered at 1638 Jessup St. in Huntington to bless the lot and construction of Habitat house #24. The ceremony began with a welcome and introductions by Huntington County Habitat Executive Director Jean Wright.
Pastor Matt Gapinski, Pastor Mark Hoffer, and Camille Kline, all of Union Church, offered an invocation, a litany of groundbreaking, and a blessing. Jennifer McMinn grilled hot dogs on a hot dog cart on a very hot day. The Chamber of Commerce loaned a canopy tent to create some shade. Habitat’s Board of Directors provided hot dogs, chips, and drinks. Union Church provided cold lemonade and water.
The majority of funds required for construction of this Habitat house were received as a grant from Indiana Housing & Community Development Authority (IHCDA). Brian Philps, Special Projects and Business Development Manager with IHCDA in Indianapolis, partnered with Habitat Indiana to successfully complete the grant application. Philps attended the groundbreaking and spoke about the shared goals of IHCDA and Habitat for Humanity.
Also from Indianapolis, Gina Leckron and Joanna Bossi represented Habitat Indiana. Leckron, Executive Director, shared that over 1,000 Habitat homes have been built in Indiana.
Construction of Kim’s house is expected to begin in early August and be completed shortly before Christmas of this year. Kim is ready help build her own home alongside her church members, friends, and Habitat volunteers. Her two young sons are already planning what they want their bedrooms to look like.
