Playhouse offered in drawing

By Mary Jane Shearer on Thursday, May 12th, 2011 | Bookmark and Share

Huntington County Habitat for Humanity’s new playhouse was built the old fashioned way: designed with future homeowners in mind, sturdily constructed by experienced craftsmen supervised by a general contractor, with real wood 2x4 framing, cedar shake roofing, log siding, real wood porch railing, and hand-held hammers and nails.

The playhouse represents Habitat for Humanity’s belief that every person deserves a simple, decent place to live, to feel secure, and to develop their full potential. Habitat’s goal is to eliminate substandard housing in Huntington County and around the world.

Construction of the playhouse was sponsored by Bippus State Bank, Lake City Bank, Pace Chevrolet, Wells Fargo Bank, Dr. Matt Eckert of Downtown Dental, Sue Wilhelm, and Becky Gerhart. The playhouse will be on display for one week at each of these sponsors’ place of business, at the Habitat booth at the Senior Expo on May 19, and as the main feature on Habitat’s float in the Heritage Days Parade.

At other times, the playhouse may be viewed at the Habitat ReStore, 235 Safari Trail, Huntington, on Wednesdays 9-4, Thursdays 9-6, and Fridays 9-4, and Saturdays 9-4. Drawing tickets are $5.00 each or 5/$20.00 and are available from any Habitat Board of Directors member, at the ReStore, and at the Habitat office, 1454 Etna Ave., Huntington. Drawing will be held June 25, 2011, at 3:00 p.m., at the ReStore. Free delivery within 30 miles.

For sponsorship opportunities, to display the playhouse at your location, or for more information, contact Jean Wright, Executive Director of Huntington County Habitat for Humanity, 260-356-7425 or jwright@hchabitat.org.

All proceeds will benefit the next Habitat homeowner by supporting construction costs of a 3-bedroom Habitat for Humanity constructed home.
