World Habitat Day Event

Huntington County Habitat for Humanity’s 7th Annual Big Swing Golf Outing will be Saturday, October 1, at Clear Creek Golf Course. The golf outing is in celebration of World Habitat Day and proceeds from the fund raiser benefit the local Huntington County Habitat for Humanity. The Big Swing Golf Outing offers community members an opportunity to play golf, win prizes, while supporting Habitat for Humanity, which is a non-profit ministry.
Registration is open to anyone in advance or at the event. Registration starts at 9:15 a.m., followed by a Florida Scramble at 10:00 a.m. Included in the $49 registration fee is food at the turn and lunch at the end. A $200 first place prize and other gifts will be awarded to players.
Clear Creek Golf Course has offered the option for Big Swing participants to play additional holes at $5 for each 9 holes and includes a cart.
As part of World Habitat Week, on October 3 Habitat for Humanity International will complete its 500,000th home worldwide and start on its 500,001st simple, decent and affordable home. Habitat’s mission is to eliminate substandard housing around the world. The houses are built by volunteers who are overseen by experienced leaders, thus greatly reducing the cost to the homeowner. Habitat homeowners sign a mortgage and make regular payments to pay Habitat back for construction expenses. Habitat holds the mortgages, and charges no interest and makes no profit on the sales.
The local Habitat affiliate office is located at 1454 Etna Ave. in Huntington. The local Habitat ReStore will reopen Wednesday, September 21, at its new, larger location at 325 Hauenstein Road in Huntington in the former Homier store building.
