Certified Livestock Producer Training

By Ed Farris on Wednesday, December 28th, 2011 | Bookmark and Share

The Indiana State Department of Agriculture (ISDA) is hosting a workshop in the area as part of the Certified Livestock Producer Program (CLPP).  This workshop will be held on February 14 at the Wabash County REMC Community Room, located at 350 Wedcor Ave, Wabash, IN.  The program begins at 8:30 a.m. and it ends at 3:30 p.m.  There is no charge for the training and lunch will be provided for the attendees.

Livestock producers of all sizes and species are invited to attend the training.  The CLPP is a voluntary program that recognizes farmers for their commitment to innovative and top industry standards.  Lt. Governor Skillman launched the Certified Livestock Producer Program in July 2008.  Many farmers from around the state have completed the program since it was initiated by Skillman.  Producers of poultry, beef, sheep, and pork have become certified state-wide.

Industry experts in the five areas of focus for the CLPP program will present at the workshop.  The five focus areas are:  commitment to the environment, animal well-being, food safety, emergency planning, biosecurity and being a good neighbor in their community.

To salute the livestock producers for their hard work in completing the CLPP, the Indiana State Department of Agriculture will recognize them with farm signs, certificates, optional media publicity, subscription to the CLPP Connector newsletter, and invitation to exclusive CLPP events.

“Other agricultural industry partners have also stepped up to also reward producers for their achievement.  Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance is offering a 5% discount of farm policy to CLPP members, Townsend’s Sales offers a 5% discount on the sales of livestock equipment, and MWI Veterinary Supply provides a $50 rebate to aid in covering the veterinarian trip charge to complete the CLPP biosecurity section,” said CLPP Program Manager, John Nagle.

Interested livestock producers can register for the CLPP by completing and returning an application form to ISDA, 1 North Capitol, Suite 600, Indianapolis, IN 46204. The form is available on the ISDA Web site at http://www.in.gov/isda/2400.htm . John Nagle, CLPP Program Manager, can be reached at (317)-460-6158 or email at Jnagle@isda.in.gov.

Note that producers can attend CLPP workshops in January and February at two other locations in northern Indiana.  On January 24 the program will be held at the Carroll County 4-H Fairground in the 4-H Building.  On February 22 the program will be held at the Jay County Public Library Community Room.  Additional details can be found at the aforementioned ISDA Web site.
