New York trip ends successful year

A June outreach program to Camp Ave. Elementary in Merrick, New York finished out an astonishing year for the Quayle Center’s educational  programming.

“This year has been amazing in the number of schoolchildren taking part in our programs,”  said Executive Director, Daniel Johns.   “The geographic area which we serve keeps expanding.  For example,   this year’s trip to Long Island represents a second school system there.”  Looking at the numbers, the Center serves about 3,000 students from Northeast Indiana area.  Another 2,500 students are from the Indianapolis area.  1,500 are from East Central Indiana.  There are approximately 1,000 students from outside Indiana (New York, Kentucky).  The balance are from various parts of Indiana, north, south, east and west.  Looking ahead to the 2009/2010 academic year, there are already schools scheduled through spring of 2010.

“Many schools go ahead and schedule their dates a year out.  The  programs have become so popular, they don’t want to run the risk of losing their date,” said Johns.
