The Quayle Center Classic returns to Huntington on July 14 this year and It's an event which will change the lives of 10,000 schoolchildren this year.
It might seem a bit hard to imagine how an afternoon of golf might have such a profound influence. The funny thing is that someone doesn’t have to hit the perfect approach shot or make the pressure packed putt. On the contrary, the drive that hooks foul, nearly bouncing off the head of a fellow golfer, is just as critically important. The key is just participating.
There are many important fundraisers in Huntington, each toward a deserving cause. The Quayle Center Classic raises funds which are used toward the Center’s educational programming and exhibits.
What is astonishing is the impact which the Center’s programming has in teaching our children about the history and workings of our government. Perhaps even more lasting is the development of the sense of citizenship.
“A great story was relayed to me,” said Executive Director, Daniel Johns. “On election night, a woman was watching the election results come back on the television. The woman’s granddaughter sat there explaining in detail how the election process worked. The woman asked her granddaughter, ‘How did you learn about the electoral college?’ The answer came back quickly, ‘During my field trip to the Quayle Center, Grandma.’”
It’s often said that our children and grandchildren will someday be running the country for us. It’s up to us to give them the tools and knowledge to prepare for that day. The Quayle Center Classic will be held on Tuesday, July 14th at LaFontaine Golf Club. The cost is $160 per golfer, which includes golf, cart, lunch and entry to the Charity Auction Dinner that evening. For those who would just like to at-tend the dinner, it is $45.00 per person. A major portion of the entry fee is tax-deductible. All funds raised are priceless.
For more information or to register, contact the Center at 260-356-6356 or via email at info@quaylemuseum.org. If you cannot participate but would like to sponsor or contribute to the educational programming, please contact the Center as well. Thank you in advance to all who make this a great event.
