Shepherd's Closet

One of the best kept secrets in Huntington may be Shepherd's Closet Ministries located at 1280 Hitzfield St. which is a low cost thrift store serving the community with inexpensive clothing and household items. They honor referrals from Love INC, Salvation Army, Pathfinders, Bowen Center, Family Centered Services, and many more non-profits. Shepherd's Closet has been around for over 20 years, but unfortunately not many people know about them. They have been a ministry of the Good Shepherd Church, but since Good Shepherd closed its doors in August, a new church named "The Well" has taken them on as their community outreach ministry.

The new director, Jill Haskins, said that she is extremely excited to see how they can help change the lives of the community by serving them and growing along with them. Jill is promoting the upcoming prom dress giveaway, the Enchanted Gown Giveaway. They are currently collecting prom dress donations in conjunction with Northside Cleaners. Dresses can be dropped off at Shepherd's Closet or Northside Cleaners. On March 27th from 6:30-9:30 p.m., they will be giving away the dresses for free to any high school girl that walks through the door. They just ask that she have a school id with her. Also, there is no income limit; anyone and everyone is invited. For more information, you can contact Shepherd's Closet at 356-3789 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 10-2.
