Each year ITT Employees’ Federal Credit Union members reach out to support an agency in our community that serves those in need. This year members chose to support the children at YWCA Northeast Indiana Crisis Shelter.
The Crisis Shelter serves those fleeing domestic violence and their children; many come with merely the clothes on their backs. ITT Employees’ FCU members wanted to make sure every student at the Crisis Shelter started school not only with school supplies, but also with a smile. Members collected backpacks filled with paper, pencils, pens and all the other implements needed for learning, along with funds to help purchase school uniforms and new shoes.
When children’s lives are disrupted by violence in their homes, smiles can be in short supply. Excitement and smiles were in abundance as elementary to high school students at the shelter dug through the backpacks they received to see what surprises awaited inside. ITT Employees’ FCU members achieved their goal to Bag-A-Smile as the students started school with all the supplies they needed and a smile. As with all students, some were smiling more than others on the first day of school.
