YWCA Seeks Nominees

The YWCA Northeast Indiana is seeking nominees for its 2011 Hope Awards, which honor outstanding work in five categories: ending domestic violence, empowering women, eradicating racial injustice, advocating for children and young people improving their community.

Nominations are invited from the YWCA Northeast Indiana’s service area, which includes Allen, DeKalb, Huntington, Noble, Wells and Whitley counties.  All nominations must be submitted by October 11th.  The awards are presented to winners at their home or work during the National Week Without Violence Oct. 17-21.

Last year’s winners included the Whitko High School chapter of Students Against Destructive Decisions and their sponsor, Patty Weybright; Trudy Grafton, principal of Study Elementary School in Fort Wayne; Amy Richison and Cynthia Wehr of the Huntington County child advocacy center McKenzie’s Hope; Tom Dyer, Fort Wayne instructor for the Indiana Manpower and Comprehensive Training (IMPACT) program; Sherry Sausaman of the Whitley County Domestic Violence Task Force; and Patricia Quiones, owner of La Raza Unida in Fort Wayne.
