Alva D. Korporal, Jr., 84, of Van Buren, IN, passed away at 7:32 PM, on Sunday, February 28, 2010 at Rolling Meadows Health Center in La Fontaine, IN.
He was born on Thursday, September 24, 1925, in Marion, IN. Alva was a 1943 graduate of Van Buren High School. He retired in 1987 from General Tire in Marion, IN, after 34 years of service. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He also enjoyed fishing, cutting wood and sharpening chainsaws. Military Graveside Rites Conducted By the Grant County Honor Guard.
He married Dorothy (Chenoweth) Korporal on September 30, 1945 in Grant County. Dorothy prededed Alva in death.
He was the son of the late Alva D. Korporal, Sr. and the late Callie (Leach) Korporal.
Survivors include: son-Larry (wife, Cindy) Korporal of Marion, Ind., daughter-Linda Saunders of Van Buren, Ind., special friend-Shirley Hawkey of Oshkosh, Wis., Grandchildren-Jodi (husband, Jeff) Gotschall of Marion, Ind., Shannon Creech of Marion, Ind., Tyrone Saunders of Pendleton, Ind., Anthony Saunders of Huntington, Ind., J.T. (wife, Alison) Thompson of Hartford City, Ind. and Shelly (husband, Jeremy) Rodabaugh of Marion, Ind., 14 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great Great Grandchild.
He was preceded in Death by: wife-Dorothy (Chenoweth) Korporal, parents-Alva D. & Callie (Leach) Korporal, Sr., sister-Juanita Korporal and a brother-Vaughn Korporal.
Arrangements are being handled by Ferguson & Glancy Funeral Home, 201 W. Main Street, Van Buren, Ind., where the family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at the funeral home and from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM Wednesday, March 3, 2010 also at the funeral home.
Funeral service will be at Ferguson & Glancy Funeral Home at 10:30 AM Wednesday, March 3, 2010 , with Dr. Blake J. Neff officiating.
Interment will be at Van Buren Cemetery in Van Buren, Ind.
