Ronald L. Hughs, 75 and Norma Jean Hughs, 86 of Markle and formerly of Engle Street, Huntington passed away at the Ossian Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. Ronald passed away at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 and Norma Jean passed away at 7:35 p.m. on Thursday, March 8, 2012. Ronald was a 1954 graduate of Bucklin High School in Bucklin, Kansas. He attended Fort Wayne Bible College. Norma was a 1943 graduate of Jefferson Township High School in Huntington County. Ronald retired in 1998 from John’s Painting in Fort Wayne and he had worked for several companies in the Fort Wayne area. Ronald and Norma Jean were members of the National Campers and Hikers Association. Norma Jean had worked as a switch board operator for Huntington Phone Company during WWII. She also had worked at Wabash Magnetics for several years and at the Warren United Methodist Memorial Home. They both were members of the Good Shepherd United Brethren Church. They were both charter members of the Viking Booster Club, ARBA (American Rabbit Breeders Association) for many years and had volunteered for the Huntington County 4-H Rabbit program. They were foster parents for many children in Huntington County.
Ronald was born on September 22, 1936 in Ashland, Kansas, a son of Jesse R. and Ruth O. (Haller) Hughs.
Norma Jean was born on October 30, 1925 in Allendale, Illinois, a daughter of Charles Benjamin and Cora Viola (Holmes) Blosser.
Ronald and Norma Jean were united in marriage on December 9, 1966 in Fort Wayne.
Survivors include: three daughters: Karen (Tom) Black of Fort Wayne; Debra (Mike) Branstator of Roanoke; Stephanie (Dave) Booher of Brownsburg, IN; a son: Mike Trout of Tacoma, WA; Ronald’s brothers: Roger Hughs of LaMont, FL; Lawrence Hughs of Hutchison, KS; Herb (Maxine) Hughs of LaFonatine, IN; 9 grandchildren: Stacey Law, Natalie Branstator, Kameron Bishop, Taylor Booher, Kaleb Hughs, Brian Trout, Stacey Trout, Darrell Trout and Angie Black, and 2 great grandchildren: Adrianna Bessent and Ava Black.
Ronald was preceded in death by a sister: Carol Byer and Norma Jean was preceded in death by a brother: John Blosser, three sisters: Dorothy Vanwinkle, Pauline Leek, Freda Blosser and both were preceeded by a grandson: Shane Gordon.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 14, 2012 from 12:00 – 2:30 p.m. at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, Indiana.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel with Herb Hughs and Roger Hughs officiating.
Interment will be at the Lancaster Cemetery in Lancaster, Indiana.
