Harris-Shoemaker Advances to Regional

Huntington North Viking bowler Adam Harris-Shoemaker advanced to the Muncie Regional on February 4, by finishing 7th in the Hoosier Conference High School Bowling Sectional at The Bowling Center in Bluffton Saturday afternoon. He will be the lone Viking representative at the regional in singles.
It was a tough day for the Viking bowlers. Seven Viking bowlers competed and several were highly favored to advance. Only Harris-Shoemaker, a junior, rolled a 584 three game series with games of 257-179-152 to finish seventh, just one pin in front of the eighth and final bowler to qualify for the regional. 39 bowlers competed for eight regional spots and it took a three game score of 583 to advance.
Viking senior Connor Brown was the first alternate, rolling 580 and missing the cut by just three pins. Senior Tyler Carroll, the high average in the state rolled 579 and missed by four pins, and freshman Zac Tackett missed by just seven pins with a 576. Coach Jim Bischoff said “it was a day where one spare made the difference between several Vikings advancing to the regional or not making the top eight.”
Other Viking bowlers competing were Jon Scott. He finished 22nd with 508. Tyler Krepp, who had the second high average in the conference, was 23rd with 502. AJ Bickel finished 35th with 447.
The eight bowlers to qualify for the regional, and their scores, are Harrison Osborne, Bluffton-722, Jack Williams, Norwell-666, Jordan Retheford, Norwell-606, Adam Schmidt, Bluffton 600, Herbie Bergman, Norwell-592, Dylan Retheford, Norwell-587, Adam Harris-Shoemaker, Huntington North-584 and Jacob Coy, Jay County-583.
Bluffton’s Harrison Osborne won the sectional title by defeating Bluffton’s Adam Schmidt in the championship match 226-170.
The defending Indiana High School Champion and #1 ranked Vikings and 7th ranked Lady Vikings try to defend their sectional title and advance to the Muncie regional and Thursday night at the Brown Bowl in Portland beginning at 5:30pm. The girls individual sectional will be Wednesday afternoon at Villa Lanes in Decatur beginning at 4:45pm.
