Special O competes in Bowling Tournament

Huntington County Special Olympics competed in Special Olympics Indiana Area 3 regional bowling tournament in Fort Wayne, Indiana on November 3. To qualify for the state meet bowlers and teams needed to win gold medal in their division at the Area 3 tournament.

Winning gold medal in the singles division were Ian Bostel, Christina Canvin and Luke Wood. They will be bowling at the state tournament in Indianapolis on Saturday, December 3. Jacob Vonesh also advanced to the state tournament in the single ramp division.

Also qualifying for the state tournament were three Unified teams. Unified teams are made up of two Special Olympic bowlers and two partners. Unified team competition takes place in Indianapolis on Sunday, December 4. The Unified team of Jesse Gunsolus (athlete), Jacob Parker (athlete), Brandon Broxon (partner) and Morgan Miller (partner) are advancing to state. Tori Harpole (athlete), Arizona Parker (athlete), Mikayla Schrum (partner) and Maria Scott (partner) comprise the second team advancing to the state tournament. The final Unified team members going to state are Dominik Gunsolus (athlete), Nicholas McKoon (athlete), Sara Dill (partner) and Jonathon Scott (partner).

Huntington County Schools Special Olympics bowlers have been practicing since August for an opportunity to advance to the state tournament.
