Yeiter Wins Conference Singles Title

2011 Conference Singles Top Five

Huntington, IN Huntington North Lady Viking Senior Ayla Yeiter won the Hoosier Conference Singles title Saturday afternoon at Oak Lanes. Yeiter, the third seed, defeated Lady Viking senior teammate and top seed Eleni Newsome 192-184 in the championship match. The championship match was not decided until the 10th frame. Yeiter struck the first ball of the tenth, after also striking in the ninth frame, to force Newsome to throw two strikes in the tenth frame to win. Newsome threw an eight count in her first ball and Yeiter was the champion. Newsome rolled a rare all-spare game in the loss. 

Seventeen girls representing Huntington North, Bellmont, South Adams, Bluffton and Southern Wells, competed in the tournament. Five Lady Vikings advanced from qualifying to the final eight. Newsome was the top seed after three qualifying games with a 575 series. Senior Alyssa Prickett was the second seed with 517. Yeiter was third seed with 499. Sophomore Alex Rittenhouse qualified fourth with 493. Southern Well’s Kelsey Miller was the fifth seed with 461 followed by Bluffton’s Ciara Lovell as the sixth seed with 439. Lady Viking freshman Maddie Johnson was the seventh seed with 431 and South Adams Chelsea Bollenbacher was the eighth seed with 416. Lady Vikings Ashley Clark and Megan Manes also competed but did not advance to the final eight.

In the round of eight, Newsome defeated South Adam’s Bollenbacher 176-135, Southern Well’s Miller defeated Huntington North’s Alex Rittenhouse 182-145, Yeiter defeated Bluffton’s Lovell 217-116 and Lady Viking Prickett defeated teammate Johnson 173-162.  In the semi-finals Newsome defeated Miller in a close match 176-160 to get to the championship match. In the other semi-final, Yeiter eliminated Lady Viking teammate Prickett 202-158 to advance to the final match against Newsome.

The top five bowlers rec’d medals and scholarship awards and Newsome and Rittenhouse rec’d scholarship awards for the high qualifying series and game with 575 and 203 respectively.
