Riverview and Crestview were on the field Thursday night to open the middle school football season. The seventh grade took the field first with Crestview receiving the ball. The Cougars gambled and went for it on fourth down in their own territory on the first series and came up short turning the ball over to the Raiders on the Cougar 39.

An 18 yard rumble by #40 Matt Johns and an 11 yard run by #11 Caleb Ferrell set up a first and 10 at the 11. #3 Jon Berlier finished off the drive on an 11 yard run to put the Raiders up 6-0 with 2:13 to go in the first.

Early in the second the Raiders Matt johns was back at it again when he took the handoff at about their own 40 broke it outside, broke and tackle and was off to the races. The next Cougar to touch him was as he crossed the goal line for the long touchdown run. The two point conversion was good and the Raiders were up 14-0 going into half.

Halftime saw real life interrupt the game as a medical emergency by one of the officials on the field became the main concern and the school officials postponed the games. Reschedule date will be announced at a later date.

Please keep the Jena family in your prayers. Doug was a fixture on the field as referee for a lot of games helping many kids along the way and will be missed. Announcements were made at school today and a moment of silence was observed, the football team then took it upon themselves to take a huddle and pray in honor and in memory. The Schools had counselors available to any students who may need them as the site of Doug collapsing and having CPR performed on him in front of the crowd was traumatic.
