Vikings can't hold on against Giants

The Marion Giants came to town on Friday September 23rd to take on the Vikings for Homecoming 2011. The Giants had been giving up points in bunches and the Vikings were coming off a convincing win at Anderson so the outlook was looking good for the Vikings.

The game started with the Vikings kicking and nice coverage by the Vikings Austin Piedmont pinning the Giants back at their own 10. The Viking defense came to play and forced the three and out and the Vikings were in business at the Giant 40.

The Vikings would come up short on fourth down by inches and give the ball back to the Giants just outside the 30. The Giants would then take it down the field and on fourth down break the 24 yard touchdown run to take the lead 6-0 with 4:31 in the first.

The next drive would be the story of the night for the Vikings. The Vikings were pounding the ball down the field picking up yards in bunches when the Vikings would fumble it away on the Giant 13 yard line. Two plays later the Giants would break the 81 yard run for the 13-0 lead.

The Vikings looked like they were back in it when Cody Frazier broke free and with an ankle breaking move in the open field took it to the end zone for the 52 yard touchdown bringing the Vikings to within 6 at 7-13 with 4:25 left in the half.

The next 4:25 would be the undoing of the Vikings. The Giants would return the kickoff for the touchdown to go up 20-7. The Vikings would then take it down the field, including a 30 yard pass from Reed Fawcett to Levi Lawson, only to give up the fumble on the Giants 28 yard line.

The Giants would then take it down the field and on fourth and five the Giant back would break loose and dive just inside the pylon for the touchdown putting the Giants up 26-7 with :01 left in the half.

The second half would see more of the same for the Vikings. The offense would move the ball but either come up short on fourth down or fumble the ball away.

The defense played well but was put in some tough situations and gave up some big plays. The Vikings ended up losing five fumbles and fell 32-14 to the Giants.
