The Viking Varsity football team travelled to Muncie Friday night September 30th to take on the Bearcats of Muncie Central. With the weather cold and windy the Vikings were looking to run the ball and control the line of scrimmage.
Caleb Richison returned the opening kick to midfield and the Vikings went to work pounding the ball against the Bearcats. Hampered by a penalty the Vikings drive stalled and they turned the ball over on downs at the Bearcat 19 yard line. That is when the Vikings defense would come up big with the interception by Daniel George giving the Vikings the ball at the Bearcat 8 yard line. The first play after the pic Cody Frazier would score from the 8 to put the Vikings up 7-0.
The Viking lead would be short lived and the Bearcats would lead 12-7 after the first quarter. Frazier would pick up his second rushing touchdown of 9 yards in the second to put the Vikings up 14-7 at the half.
The Viking defense would stuff the Bearcats the first series of the second half and Viking offense would take over. Drew Schnitz led the Vikings offense on this series and after a 15 yard scamper for a first down at the Bearcat 5 it was again Frazier time putting the Vikings up 21-12 early in the 3rd.
The Bearcats would claw back to within 3 at 21-18 early in the 4th but the Vikings were not going to be denied. After the Viking defense came up big on fourth down the Vikings went back to work this time being led by Reid Fawcett. After a 14 yard rumble by Brock Gower down to the 4 Reid would call his own number and find the end zone to put the game away 28-18. The Vikings rushed for over 300 yards with almost half of them coming from Cody Frazier. Big hits of the night go to Daniel George who laid one on a Bearcat receiver crossing the middle and a little later just leveled the Bearcat running back on the sideline. When the Vikings hold onto the ball they are tuff to beat.
The Vikings are now 3-4 overall and 3-2 in the North Central Conference.
