Gymnasts earn a win at home

The Huntington North gymnastics squad took on Wawasee and Yorktown gymnasts on Thursday, February 18 in the fieldhouse at Huntington North High School.

The ladies came away with the win by a slim margin 101.90 to Wawasee's 99.20 and Yorktown's 34.85. 

The Yorktown squad consisted of one team member and her coach.  Kaycee Acree wound up winning two events during the competition.  She took firsts in the vault and also the balance beam.  She also finished first in the all-around competition with Huntington's Stephanie Freeman and Olivia Eckert finishing second and third respectively.

Vikings Freeman and Jessica Baker won the other two events.  Freeman taking the uneven bars with a score of 8.55 and Baker winning the floor exercise with a 9.2.

Other events and their finishers were:

Vault - Freeman, 2nd; Olivia Eckert, 4th

Uneven Bars - Jessica Baker, 2nd; Eckert, 3rd

Balance Beam - Baker, 2nd; Freeman, 6th

Floor Exercise - Freeman, 2nd

The girls next are in action tomorrow (Saturday, Feb. 20) at the NCC meet at Muncie Central starting at 12:30 p.m.  They will then compete at Elmhurst High School in Fort Wayne on Wednesday, February 24 with a starting time of 6:30 p.m.

The next match in the fieldhouse will be the Regionals on Friday, March 12 starting at 6 p.m.
