The gymnasts from Huntington North traveled to Marion to take on 13 other high school groups last Saturday and came away with a fifth place finish scoring 102.75 points. Roncalli won the event with a team score of 112.30 points.
Jessica Baker was the highest placing competitor for the team finishing the vault in 10th, the uneven bars in 6th, winning the beam competition, and wrapping up with floor exercise in 15th place.
She finished 5th in the all-around competition.
Other Huntington North teammates and their finishes were: Olivia Eckert 21st in vault, 24th in uneven bars, 20th in beam, and 29th in floor exercise. Stephanie Freeman finished 32nd in vault, 13th in uneven bars, 15th in beam, and 21st in floor exercise. Robyn Karst finished in 22nd in uneven bars, and 33rd in floor exercise. Marisa Kitt finished with 32nd in vault. Cieria Boyd finished 32nd in beam.
Viking coach Sherrill Ness was optimistic about the performance. "Not having a meet last week and no practice due to weather, we had a fair meet." "Our top four gymnasts are having some light injury issues but we hope to have them healed for our NCC meet next Saturday at Muncie Central," she said.
The girls will take on the rest of the North Central Conference next Saturday at Muncie Central starting at 12:30 p.m. They will be at home this Thursday evening when they take on Wawasee in the fieldhouse starting at 6:30 p.m.
