Lady Vikes carry the day!

On Saturday, Huntington North’s gymnastics team carried home the Sectional championship trophy by placing first out of twelve teams at Muncie Central. They finished with 101.65 points just ahead of Jay County who had 99.35 points. Other teams competing were Daleville (95.025), Marion (94.55), Muncie Central (94.45), Heritage (91.176), Delta (85.90), Muncie Southside (84.10), Blackford (83.3), Blue River Valley (82.3), Oak Hill (36.5) and Yorktown (34.175).

In the Vault, the Lady Vikes were led by Olivia Eckert who placed fourth in the event with a score of 9.15. Jessica Baker tied for seventh with 8.95 points. Other Lady Vikes competing in the event were Stephanie Freeman (19th, 8.55) and Cieria Boyd (27th, 8.35). In the Uneven Parallel Bars, Jessica Baker placed second for the Lady Vikes with a score of 8.875. Both Stephanie Freeman and Olivia Eckert tied for ninth with a score of 8.0. Freshman Robyn Karst took 22nd place with a score of 7.3.

In the balance beam, Jessica Baker won the event with a dominating score of 9.4. Stephanie Freeman tied for sixth place with a score of 8.3. Other Lady Vikes competing in the event were Olivia Eckert (15th, 7.45) and Chelsi Snyder (31th, 6.05). The Lady Vikes finished the day at the floor exercise. Jessica Baker finished sixth with a score of 8.7 with Stephanie Baker placing ninth with 8.425. Olivia Eckert took 15th place with a score of 7.85. Cieria Boyd took 34th place with 6.35.

Adding all the events together, Jessica Baker placed second in the All-around with 35.925 points just behind Brittany Pond (36.5) of Oak Hill. Stephanie Freeman (33.275) was ninth while Olivia Eckert (32.45) was 13th.

Congratulations to the Lady Vikes for winning the Sectional. The Lady Vikes will host the Regionals at Huntington North next Friday (3/12).
