The DiscoverRoanoke 10K/5K run/walk recently surpassed the 200 registrant milestone and the organizers are pleased to announce that Edward Jones has named Mrs. Kelly Yeiter as the official starter for the upcoming event. The inaugural event will be held in downtown Roanoke on April 17th, 2010, at 9 am. The event will benefit the Roanoke Elementary PTO and will be held rain or shine and is open to participants of all ages. Sponsors for the event include Edward Jones, United REMC, Bippus State Bank, American Specialty, and Dick’s Sporting Goods.
Registrations have come from as far away as Indianapolis, Logansport, Angola, and Plymouth. Event organizers are still accepting registrations and will be doing so until 8:00 am on the day of the event. Online signups will be open until Wednesday, April 14th, at http://www.onturfsports.com/Runners/10k-5kRun-Walk.htm. Information and course maps can be found at the website as well. Each participant will receive a long sleeve event shirt and a goody bag.
The event will feature a festive atmosphere with music playing at the start/finish line and live updates from the course as the participants wind their way around the town and adjoining countryside. The event organizers encourage spectators to visit downtown Roanoke the morning of the event and enjoy the atmosphere while browsing the eclectic blend of downtown merchants and cheering on the participants.
