Johnson wins 'Turkey Trot'

Before the start

The fifth annual Turkey Trot 5K run and Family Fun Walk took place today (Thanksgiving) at McDonald's in Huntington.  The event had over 334 running participants in the run and 53 participated in the fun walk, and they raised over $5,500 for the Pathfinder Kids Kampus Scholarship Fund.

Ronald McDonald was on hand to start the runners out a little past 8 a.m. on Home Street. The course wound past the Pathfinder Kids Kampus childcare center, through Huntington University, turned around at Parkview Huntington Hospital, and returned to McDonald's.  The staff of McDonald's provided all participants and volunteers with breakfast after the race and walk. Over 25 people volunteered their time for the event.

$100 Cash prizes were awarded by McDonald's to the overall male and female winners of the race, and $50 to each age division winner both male and female to those who were able to accept them.  Trophies, provided by Custom Craft, were awarded to the top three finishers in each age group.  The age groups were: Men and Women Master's Division, 55 and older, Men and Women 35-54, Men and Women 16-34, and Men and Women 15 and under.

The overall male winner of the race was Nicholas Johnson with a time of 15:40, and the overall female winner of the race was Lauren Johnson with a time of 18:50. Placing second overall was Elias Rojas with a time of 15:51, and placing third with a time of 16:10 was Chuck Wysong. Placing first in the fifteen and under Female division was Samantha Roush with a time of 20:58. Placing first in the fifteen and under Male division was Jeff Wysong with a time of 16:23.

Placing first in the Women’s 16-34 division was Karen Killian with a time of 19:58, Placing first in the Men’s 16-34 division was Elias Rojas with a time of 15:51. Placing first in the Women’s 35-54 division was Carrie Boxell with a time of 23:08, Placing first in the Men’s 35-54 division was Brian Shepherd with a time of 17:03.

Placing first in the Women’s Master’s division was Betty Nelson with a time of 24:12.  Placing first in the Male’s Master’s division was Neil Tate with a time of 21:35.

All proceeds from the event went to benefit the Kids Kampus Early Childhood Education Scholarship Fund.  A complete listing of all race results can be found at www.kidskampus.org.

McDonald's was the main sponsor for the event.  Other sponsors included: Pathfinder Kids Kampus, The News Sentinel, El Shaddai, Inc., MarkleBank, Custom Craft and the Kil-So-Quah Road Runners.  Pathfinder Kids Kampus, Huntington, is an early childhood center serving children from infancy to age 12.  Pathfinder Kids Kampus is a Paths to QUALITY Provider, and is the child care division of Pathfinder Services, Inc., a not-for-profit human services organization based in Huntington.  The 2010 Turkey Trot is set to take place on Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 2010.

This event is such a huge positive event for this community. Pathfinders continues to put on a great 5k and they are such a great organization for our community.

You forgot to mention that Nick Johnson's wife was the top female finisher...
