Green Earns Athlete of the Week honors

The Huntington University Athletic Department announced its Athlete of the Week for the week of January 23-29, 2012.  Women’s basketball senior Kelsey Green earned the honor for her outstanding efforts during the week’s competitions.

Green, a Math Education major from Van Buren, Ind. (Eastbrook High School) dominated the boards last week to guide the Foresters to a 1-1 record. Against Bethel on Wednesday, Green pulled down a team-high ten rebounds, five of which came from the offensive glass. In HU’s 70-65 win over the 25th-ranked Cougars of Saint Francis on Saturday, she pulled down 16 rebounds to go along with 17 points for her ninth double double of the year.

In addition to leading the league in rebounding, she also ranks 10th in NAIA Division II for defensive rebounds per game (6.8), 11th in total rebounds per game (10.2) and 19th in offensive rebounding per game (3.4).

Huntington (14-6, 6-4) is back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Marian University for a 7:00 p.m. MCC match-up.

The Huntington University Foresters compete in 14 intercollegiate sports for men and women. In the past decade, Huntington has produced 53 NAIA All-America honors and 187 All-America Scholar Athlete honors. Huntington University is a comprehensive Christian college of the liberal arts offering graduate and undergraduate programs in more than 70 academic concentrations.
