Lady Vikes place fifth in Warsaw

Fearsome Foursome

The Huntington North Girls' Swim team finished up the Sectional on Saturday in Warsaw. The host team took the Sectional crown with 284 points. The Lady Vikes tied with Columbia City for fifth place with 151 points behind Culver (223), Logansport (192), and Plymouth (166).

The Lady Vikes placed third in the 200 Yard Medley Relay with Mariah Patrick leading off with the backstroke, Cassie Hacker with the Breaststroke, Andrea Okuly with the Fly and Sara Karst anchoring with the freestyle in a time of 2:00.29. In the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, the same four swimmers finished second in a time of 1:48.63 (Okuly, Patrick, Karst and Hacker).

Sara Karst competed in the 200 Yard Freestyle to finish second behind Logansport’s Peyton Zehner completing the event in 2:05.12. Later in the meet, Sara finished third in the 500 Yard Freestyle with a time of 5:44.90.

In the 100 Yard Freestyle, Cassie Hacker placed second with a time of 57.61. Cassie came back with the sole first place finish for the Vikes in the 100 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:13.46, one full second faster than Warsaw’s Ava Donovan. In the 100 Yard Backstroke, Mariah Patrick place fifth in a time of 1:06.13. For complete results, click on the Results hyperlink below.

Cassie Hacker automatically qualifies for the State competition in Indianapolis (Indiana University Natatorium) on Friday, Feb. 12, 2010, 6 p.m. for the Swimming prelims. The State meet finishes on Saturday with the finals and consolations.


Criteria for moving on to State:

1.    First place sectional winners in each event qualify for the state meet.
2.    Any contestant who equals or betters the state time standard in their respective event in the consolation finals or championship finals of the sectional qualifies for the state plus. The state standard may not be achieved by a swimmer who is competing as the first leg of a relay.
3.    The next fastest number of contestants in the state that would bring the total number of state meet entrants to thirty-two (32) in each event.
