What a great showing the Vikings swim team had at the IUPUI Natatorium.
This is a wonderful place to have this event as many Olympic trials have been held here, not to mention the World Diving Championships a time or two.
Eight teams showed up to perform their best and only one could come away with the conference title. On this day, the winner of both the Boys and Girls meet would be Richmond, but that didn't stop our Viking swimmers from putting up their best times of the year to date! Coach Reed Christiansen stated that almost every swimmer posted personal bests in every race. This is an outstanding accomplishment for the team.
The boys swim team finished 4th out of 8 teams. The 200 Medley Relay, consisting of Danny Scher, Skyler Ruschhaupt, Shaun Marion, and Chris Royer, finished in 2nd place but broke the school record setting the new mark at 1:42.45.
The squad of Scher, Ruschhaupt, Marion, and Casey Dubuc took first overall in the 200 Free Relay with a time of 1:31:33
Scher also finished the 50 Free in 1st place and a new school record with a time 21.94, and won the 100 Free.
Ruschhaupt took home 1st in the 100 Fly.
Casey Dubuc took 2nd Place overall in the mens diving division, and most likely would have taken first overall if it weren't for some questionable scoring from one of the judges.
The girls swimming team finished fifth out of 8 teams. Cassie Hacker finished 2nd in the 100 Breastroke with a time of 1:12:91, just 1.4 seconds behind 1st place Lexi Scott of Richmond.
Sara Karst was 4th overall in the 500 yard Freestyle with an outstanding time of 5:48:88.
The team of Hacker, Karst Andrea Okuly, and Madi Wright took fourth overall in the 200 free relay.
As previously mentioned, many personal best times were set on this day.
Coach Christiansen could not say enough how proud he was of all the swimmers, and that he hopes the team can use this as a springboard into the upcoming sectionals.
