Foresters pick up two wins over weekend

Hosting a tri-match on Saturday, the Huntington volleyball team dominated the day with wins against Indiana University South Bend and Roosevelt University.

The Foresters battled for a win in their first match to top IUSB in five sets, 25-21, 25-27, 25-11, 15-25, 21-19. After winning the first set, HU held a late lead in the second set but the Titans fired back to steal the win and knot the series at 1-1. Both team traded dominate wins to force a fifth set in which the Foresters outlasted IUSB to claim their seventh win of the season.

Brittany Rooze came up big for HU with a season-high 25 kills and 12 digs. Rebekah Brown finished with 12 kills and four blocks. Melissa Grossman and Heather Medich each tallied nine kills. Grossman also added four blocks and three serving aces. Jensen Carnahan orchestrated the offense with 55 assists. She also chipped in ten digs, three blocks and two aces.

Huntington turned around and swept Roosevelt University, 25-19, 25-20, 25-16, to win their second match of the day. Rooze again led the Forester attack with 11 kills and a .348 hitting percentage. Medich added eight kills. Carnahan dished out 27 assists. She and Grossman recorded three blocks apiece in the winning effort. As a team, the Foresters finished with a .294 hitting percentage, which included an impressive .565 percentage in the third set.

With these wins, HU improves to 8-22. They are back in action for their last match of the season on Wednesday when they host Spring Arbor University at 7:00 p.m.
