Editor's Note: the following text is info from Logan Randle's Grandfather who attended the 17th Annual Illinois/Indiana Classic Duals with Logan at Hinsdale South High School, in Darien, IL on March 14, 2010. The team was comprised of a select team of Illinois seniors in class 1A, 2A and 3A battling against two Indiana All-Star teams. You can download the Indiana squad roster (in PDF form) below.
What follows is a good look into what happens during an event like this from the wrestler's perspective. Or... a close relative to the participating wrestler.
----------------------------
Arrived Sunday 3-14 had a nice breakfast brunch
Warm ups and pictures followed
Logan was on the "A" team
Then team Indiana and Illinois lined up on each side of the mat. Each person was introduced, records read, wrestlers for each weight class met in the center of the mat and exchanged handshakes and gifts
Logan wrestled Jake Schramm - Hinsdale South H.S. (Sr. record 37-4 ; overall 121 -33) now 37-5 and 121-34
Logan's (Sr. record 41-2 overall 134-21) now 42-2 and 135-21
Then warm ups and wrestling started.
First period - Logan and Jake went even up - several attempted shots were made with some tie ups no scores.
Second period - Logan on bottom - escaped (1pt) then did a single leg take down for two - his opponent didn't score.
Third period - opponent down - escaped (1pt) then a takedown early in the period knotting up the score 3 - 3. Logan then escaped and then got a takedown with 6 sec. to go ending the match with a 6 -3 decision.
Logan then was recognized as champion and given a medallion with the state of Illinois and Indiana All Stars on it.
Logan was dead tired, it was a rough match. He said "the dude was strong and long armed." He continued "after the second period, my arms felt like I had already been in a three period overtime match" He was very glad he won but was ready to take a nap.
We are very proud of his achievements over the years at Huntington North. It was very exciting to watch him wrestle a smart match. He dug deep for this win because you could see how tired he was going into the third period.
At the end of the event Team "A" (Logan's team) for Indiana had beaten Illinois - but Team "AA" for Illinois beat Indiana - so it ended as a 1:1 match.
